MALACALICO
Designer ES in Visual Communication, specialisation in graphic novels, comics and illustration
Azriel is a Filipino artist born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland. Like most artists, he started drawing as a little kid and never stopped. Wanting to pursue a creative career path, he studied at the CFPArts in Interactive Media Design, where he learned a number of things, such as marketing, web design and project management, but especially found enjoyment in video editing and animation. He then went to the ESBDI, wishing to further develop his drawing skills. This has offered him opportunities to work with clients such as Le Persil, the Musée Ariana, the Bibliothèque Municipale de Genève and the Museum d’Histoire Naturelle de Genève, as well as having his work published with La Joie de Lire. He’s also managed to sell his art and comics at a number of events, such as COMET and BDFIL. He especially enjoys doing character illustration with fantastical elements; his work tends to feature bright colours and dramatic lighting, but he likes to adapt his style to the story he’s trying to tell.
Today, besides working on his own personal artistic projects, he’s a member of the comic association Splotch!, does freelance illustration and manages his own YouTube channel where he talks about his interests, such as his characters, art, media and culture. He likes reading (novels and comics), fantasy and mythology.
